Yorkshire Music Industry - Plugged In Yorkshire - Music Futures Conference

Music Futures Music Industry Conference combined a programme of talks, networking and interactive sessions, aiming to share experience and insider tips, to find new focus for the region's music businesses. 

The event was a huge success, bringing some of the leading and most influential / inspirational figures in the UK and International Music Industry to share their knowledge, and selling out all tickets before the day

Alison Wenham - AIM
With over 25 years in the music industry, Alison  is one of the most experienced / well known people in the business having worked in both independent and multinational sectors. Alison has been the Chairman and CEO of AIM (association of independent musicians) since 1998 with its members representing approx 20% of the UK market. Alison is also a founding Board Member of IMPALA (the European organisation representing record companies and publishers in Europe) and Special Music Adviser to the British Council. In 2008, Alison was instrumental in setting up AIF (the Association of Independent Festivals), with Rob Da Bank and Ben Turner, and is currently the Chair of the new association’s board.

Jeremy Silver - Featured Artists Coalition
Jeremy has been focused on the music industry for over fifteen years and is currently executive Chairman of Semetric (real-time analytics for the entertainment industry) and non-exec Chair of MusicGlue (online ticketing for artists). Jeremy serves as an adviser to the Featured Artists Coalition, a music industry organisation co-chaired by Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, Sandie Shaw and Ed O’Brien of Radiohead. Previously Jeremy was worldwide Vice President of New Media for EMI Music Group in London and Los Angeles, Director of Media Affairs at Virgin Records, working with many artists including GenesisBrian Eno and Massive Attack.

Caroline Elleray - Universal Music Publishing
Caroline is currently head of A&R for Universal Music Publishing. Caroline signed both Coldplayand Keane to BMG Music Publishing years before they got record deals, paying for recordings and shopping them relentlessly to labels, and is widely regarded as one of the leading figures in the A&R sector of the music industry.

Paul Brindley - Music Ally 
Paul is the co-founder of MusicAlly, the UK's leading digital music business information and strategy company, publishing reports on the digital music scene, analysing how technology is changing the entertainment industry. Paul wrote New Musical Entrepreneurs, a report into the impact of new technology on the UK music industry, published by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) think-tank in 2000. Paul also works part-time as Head of Communications at the Music Publishers Association.

Malcolm Dunbar - Pledge Music
Malcolm is Managing Director at Pledge Music, providing fans and artists the opportunity to work together to make new records and raise money. Malcolm’s career spans over 20 years, with A&R Director positions held at three majors and two leading independents including Island, Warner's East West, Mother / Universal, V2 and Sanctuary. With career sales in excess of 40 million units, Malcolm has been responsible for the signing and development of hit artists such as Lloyd Cole and The Commotions, Julian Cope, Orange Juice, The Christians, Tanita Tikaram, Longpigs, Bjork, Idlewild, Liberty X, The Datsuns, Estelle and many more.

Chris Carey - PRS for Music
Chris is an economist at PRS for Music, the royalty collection agency for UK Music, where he is responsible for analysing and interpreting music trends, and providing economic insight to stakeholders and industry professionals. Chris co-authored the influential ’Adding up the Music Industry’ publication but his other research interests include the live music industry, the issues facing investment in emerging artists and the role of government intervention in promoting the arts. An entrepreneur at heart, Chris also manages bands and runs a record label.

Scott Cohen - The Orchard  
Scott formed the Orchard, a leading Global independent digital distribution company, in 1997 alongside legendary producer Richard Gottehrer. The Orchard is a marketing and distribution company specialising in music and video entertainment, and drives sales across a network of more than 660 digital storefronts / mobile carriers in 75 countries around the world. The Orchard is headquartered in New York and London, with operations in 25 markets globally. 

Gary Downing - FRUKT
Gary Downing is co-head of licensing at FRUKT and specialises in music clearance, synchronisation and license negotiation. FRUKT has long standing relationships with some of the world’s most exciting brands (Sonyorange, Heineken, ect...) being instrumental in campaigns we will all be familiar with. FRUKT has a deep heritage in music though their work also covers all entertainment areas from sport to fashion and lifestyle.

Erik Nielsen - Music Managers Forum 
As well as being a board member of the MMF, the world's largest representation body of music managers, Erik runs Wingnut Music consultancy, with Elton John's Twenty First Artists management company and leading digital analysts Music Ally amongst his clients. Erik works with artists and organisations on creative marketing and digital strategies, artist management, and keeping a step ahead of the changing music industry. Erik has pioneered Direct-to-Consumer and 360-Degree business models in the music industry.
